TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I posted recently about being downsized and my efforts to steer my career
toward tech writing. I received many excellent suggestions and have put
several of them into action. This brings me to my latest dilemma.
I posted my availability on DICE and I've been replying to the hits I got
ever since. I've had several positive responses--but I've also had two with
excerpts like this:
>your resume does not tell me very much - I really can't tell
>whether you have written System Development Life Cycle documentation,
>which is usually the requirement on a lot of contracts.
Well folks, I hadn't heard the term "System Development Life Cycle
documentation" before, but after a little research I discovered I have
indeed done it. What a surprise! <g>
It's now obvious to me that I don't know the current buzzwords which lead to
the secret handshakes which lead to job offers. I've exhausted the archives
and the Web looking for current terminology. Can anyone clue me in?
Regards,
Kimba
