I've been slowly working through Miller's original article*
.
.
.
*Miller, G.A. The magical number seven, plus or minus two:
some limits on our capacity for processing information. The
Psychological Review 63(2):81-97.
------------------------
When did he write this? Does he claim this is his original thinking, or
does he merely cite it as the result of general research? I first
learned the principle (chunking = 7 +/- 2) from Dr. Conrad Gottfredson
in the seminar that introduced me to TW. That was in May 1986. I've
just now looked in the manual from that seminar, and it appears that he
himself only cited it as the result of general research. So it seems
the theory has been around at least since Miller was in college.
