Howdy,
Austin is a great place to be a tech writer right now. More
computer companies are entering the area daily; therefore,
more work for us. Lots of contractors around also. I don't
know about the police situation, but there are quite a
few outlying cities if APD is not hiring. The town is growing
and there seems to be jobs in just about every field.
However, there are lots of people moving here from elsewhere
to find work; I am not sure how long this market will hold.
The cost of living has been rising here for the last few
years. We bought a 4 bedroom house with a pool for $110,000
in April. I think it matters A LOT where you want to live
in town. We live pretty close to the center, prices are
higher here; the suburbs cost much less unless you live
to the west of town (really, really nice area).
About being proud to be a Texan, we are notorious for being
obnoxious about it. Austin is quite a bit more liberal than
other towns here (though all the big cities are becoming
more so). I am proud that I was born and raised here; it is
a great place to live. However, it does have its draw backs.
ITS HOT!! We are seeing more and more people move here from
somewhere else; the summers just kill them. The winters are
nice and mild though. And our 2 weeks of Spring and Fall are
just delightful.
Write me directly if you would like more specific information.
