TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Generate your Windows NT help file using any available tool. (My
preference, especially if you are going to continue to supply hard copy
and PDF, is to use a tool that supports single-source, such as
Doc-To-Help. Single-source usually means that you will compromise the
print version, the help version, or both. But, IMNSHO, that's far better
than trying to maintain multiple sources.)
Using the resultant RTF, CNT, and HPJ files and Bristol Technologies
Hyperhelp compiler you can generate help files that work on Solaris and
a few other varieties of Unix. These help files support almost, but not
quite, all of the features available in Win 95 style help.

>I'm trying to determine how best to add context-sensitive help to a

>Currently, we write documentation (12 manuals, about 5000 total pages) in
>FrameMaker/Mac and distribute it in two forms: printed books and online
>Acrobat files. We'd like to make the online version more accessable by
>linking it more closely to the software, which would also reduce the
>quantity of printed material.
