try JAVA Developers Reference by Mike Cohn etal.
you can also use the MS J++ CD...

If you're not familiar with Java, it's best to stay away from the MS
implementation. It's non-standard. If you already know what you're doing
you can create standard Java programs with it, but if you're just starting
out you're better off sticking to a standard implementation. You can avoid
the confusion introduced by the additions and subtractions to Java that MS
made.
