The edges have always been blurred. John Brockmann said, years ago --
and he might well have been quoting an even earlier source -- that "a
manual is a program for users". Technical communicators are writing
programs for something far more complex than computers, with many more
uncontrolled variables than I ever tackled as a mainframe systems
programmer.
