First, thanks to all who answered. Most of you agreed that as an
adjective, it can be spelled either online or on-line, with online being
the newer form of the word. Several people referred to the MS style
guide that says use "online" in all cases, for example "online
documentation". Well, it's nice to simplify the rules, but I agree with
some others that wrote, saying that when someone is logged on, he is on
line (two words).

So I'm writing online or on-line documentation on line.
