Job Duties:
SCOPE: Under general supervision, performs increasingly complex
documentation writing assignments. Competent to work on most phases of
documentation.
CORE FUNCTIONS:
* Researches, outlines and writes moderately complex on-line and written
documentation that is technically and grammatically accurate and conforms
to the company's writing style.
* Prepares and/or maintains user/release notes, user, systems, programming,
operations, and products and services documentation, publications,
procedures and methods.
* Gathers and researches technical information, including process
engineering/development information for use in documentation activities.
* Maintains an understanding of the application and the user's level of
proficiency and prepares written documents following standard guideline for
technical publications.
* Coordinates layout and manual organization.
* Makes necessary revisions in existing documentation.
* Takes screen shots and works with graphics and production on presenting
information graphically.
* Researches and develops an understanding of the marketing requirements
for the features being documented, including target audience.
* May also interview engineers, developers and/or other technical
personnel.
* Provides or coordinates special documentation services, when required.
* Assists in training less experienced members of the team.
* May provide occasional functional guidance to less experienced members of
the team.
Specifications:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in technical writing, English, or business or
educational/experience equivalent.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 to 4 years experience in technical
writing/documentation environment, including at least one year working at
the level of an Associate Technical Writer. Able to write documentation
that is technically and grammatically accurate and conforms to the
company's writing style guidelines. Good knowledge of applicable word
processing applications. Good research, writing and editing skills. Good
product knowledge and user awareness. Broad understanding of documentation
process. Able to accurately estimate task duration and meet schedules.
