We're innocent! Someone, whom Eric has already dealt
with, posted a time bomb to the list. When I DELETED
that time bomb test message UNREAD, my mail program
sent a copy of the message along with a "Not read:Test
Message" header to the list address! This apparently
happened to a few people on the list. That's why we've
been getting all these stupid garbage-filled "test
message" postings.
This is not a case of user ignorance, folks. We're
the victims of a serious judgment error on the part
of a poster, who may or may not be intentionally
malicious, who has caused havoc on our mailing list.
I hate to think what Eric's had to deal with to clear
it up, but I'm sure he has applied the ultimate
solution to the creator of the problem.
Eric has said explicitly (albeit by his admission belatedly)
that no receipts should be requested for any messages
sent to the list, to prevent this problem in the future.
