Well, I've kinda sorta done a one-hand-clapping kinda sorta usability
test on my resume. The last time I revised it, I posted it on a personal
home page and asked half a dozen random correspondents from this list
and a couple of usenet news groups to take a look at it before I sprung
it on the world. Their feedback led to some tweaks.

But I haven't done any two-hands-clapping testing--such as creating
different versions and mailing each to 500 agencies. So I have no idea
whether the trade-off between pretending to be someone I'm not and
winnowing out people I wouldn't want to work for has been a good thing.
(My resume is pretty much an in-your-face,
this-is-who-I-am-take-it-or-leave-it thing.)

I always end up with at least a few people telling me they loved my
resume. But I have no idea how many good jobs I'd have enjoyed doing
have passed me by because I offended some humorless jerk in Personnel.
