Thank you, Mike Uhl, for coming to the defense of the unsung temps out there. Several years ago I gave up a "permanent" job as a documentation editor for a consulting firm (which will go unnamed) because the money was lousy, the hours were lousy, and the stress was unbearable. I eventually found myself in the temp world, where, if I may be so bold to say, I often blew away the people I was working for. I'd even get calls from managers whose departments I left because they wanted me to walk them through something I had done that made life easier... everything from creating merge files to writing macros and converting graphics files. At the time, I didn't have any benefits, but I was actually making more money than I was at the permanent job (it wasn't so permanent if you could ever hear the accountant talking about their cashflow). The days are gone of the temps who are only there to collect a paycheck for taking long coffee breaks and recreating files they accidentally deleted.
