As an occasional guilty party, I must confess that you are right. We do go
off topic a lot and some threads do go on and on and on.
One of my earliest posts to this list had the same complaint.
How to fix it? You can't. People on this list are just too nice and helpful.
It is amazing just how long some threads can meander along for, but that is
a small price to pay for the bucket loads of valuable information, advice
and links obtained from those 'ramblings'.
Remember there is always the <delete> key. It look me a couple of months to
have the willpower to use it properly.
But you'll learn :)
