Hello everybody,

We are a small software documentation team, currently working
with FrameMaker 5.1 on HP-UX 9. Release and language management is getting
out of control so we want to introduce a documentation management
system based around FrameMaker+SGML and a database/DMS system.

Currently we are evaluating different products and came across
Step using Oracle and Chrystal using Astoria. Both solutions look promising,
the prices are similar ...

So my questions:

Does anyone have experience using Framemaker+SGML - did you connect it
with a database? How did it help you in maintaining your documentation?
Was it a steep learning curve switching from regular Framemaker to
Framemaker+SGML? How much time and effort was involved in moving existing
documentation to SGML structures?

Also, does anyone have any experience with either (or even both!) of the
databases/systems mentioned above and could you give me an idea of any
advantages/disadvantages you encountered?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Anneliese
