I have seen all of these gotchas in job applications.

Putting on my company Director's hat, I *always* eliminate job applicants
who steal from their previous employers, because that's what they will do
to me...sooner or later.

On the other hand, the submission that shows that the applicant:

1. Read and understood the ad (and even called up for clarification),

2. Meets the deadline, and

3. Spelling checks their stuff before printing it;

Gets to the top of the pile.
