Storage of archives on regular or re-writeable CD's
Subject:Storage of archives on regular or re-writeable CD's From:"Zigo, Joy" <Joy -dot- Zigo -at- HARPERCOLLINS -dot- COM> Date:Mon, 26 Oct 1998 16:01:06 -0500
TechWr-lers--
I've been generating some very large files, especially Photoshop files
related to a documentation project. So far, I've been archiving to ZIP
disks. A couple of disks seem to have died at a young age, which makes me
wonder how reliable the medium is. In addition, although the ZIP drive was
not very expensive, ZIP disks in quantity are costly.
Going forward, I'm considering use of either regular (ROM) CD's or
re-writeable CD's. The hardware would be an investment, but the disks
themselves are more economical.
If you have experience with these media, which kind of CD's are you using?
Are you happy with your choice? How easy/hard is the hardward to use?
Finally, can the hardware be used with both the PC and the Mac platform?
Since this may not be a topic of interest to most of the list, please email
me directly. I'll summarize responses for the list.
Thanks in advance--
Joy Zigo
