Many companies hire outside firms that specialize in naming products. I've
seen good and bad results from such firms. Some of them just have a bunch of
names they give every client, and they drop the names off when they get
used. Others really take a look at your product and the market you are
selling to.

It's not only a marketing thing--it's also a legal thing because you have to
research the trademark availability. (Don't forget to make sure the product
name isn't in use as an Internet domain name.) Also, if the product will be
distributed in multiple countries, you want to look at what the product name
means in other languages.
