The custom installation of Word 97 is identical to that of Word 6.0 and Word
95; it's not the same thing as how Word 2000 works.

In Word 97 (or Office 97), you can do a custom install and select which
components you want to have installed.  For instance, I never bother to
install the Office Binder, because I don't yet have a need for it.  (I
always do a custom install for any application that gives me a choice.
Because I do a lot of graphics and animation work as well as hardware and
software reviews, hard disk space is always at a premium.  Besides, why
install stuff you don't need?)

Office 98 on the Mac works as Suzette described.  If I don't install the
grammar checker, and, a week later, click on Grammar Checker in Word, Office
will then automatically install it -- without my having to exit Word to fire
up the installation program.  Office 2000 will have the same capability.
