Ligatures in Windows

In replying to Bernd Hutschenreuther's query about how to
use ligature characters in Windows, Elizabeth Ross said,
"Ligatures are not supported under Windows . . . ."

I haven't checked out other applications, but in Microsoft
Word 2000 (and perhaps earlier versions), choose Insert -->
Symbol, highlight the desired ligature character, press
Insert, press Close, and then set the character in the
desired font. Note that not all fonts include ligature
characters that are true ligatures.
