Yes, there are variables in Word. You'll find them in the File/Properties
dialog. Look at the Custom tab. There are several defined variables, or you
can add your own. To make a reference to this variable, you need to add a
field in your document called "DocProperty" and reference the variable name.
For example, if you had a variable named Version, the field would look like
this: {DocProperty "Version"}.
For the headers you should use the StyleRef field. For Heading 1, the field
would look like this: {StyleRef "Heading 1"}. There are several switches you
can add to this field that gives you some flexibility.
