Edwin Skau asked about the snigger-trigger potential of the word "periods" in relation to financial accounting.

As others have said, the potential is low for an audience in accounts, who spend their lives dealing with discount periods, future period, payment periods, sales periods, commission periods, overdue periods, periodical payments, periodical aaaagh I forget the rest.

I spent 5 or 6 years writing about periods in an accounting and logistics package. And it's purely coincidence that about 2 years into that period of my working life I laughingly deleted without answer an invitation to attend a meeting of the PMT. How was I to know they meant Project Management Team?
