My take, and recent resume experience.

"I have an abbreviated resume and an expanded technical resume. Which would
you like to see first.?

I use a cover letter, if required and, then the resume.

If you are favorable connected, you 'headhunter will take your resume, and
compress it. Then when you get to the client, you can "tell it like it is."

BTW, my resume is 9 pages, in the long form. "Jack of all trades, MASTER of
several."
