All you need to do is go to the
Canada/US border (from the Canadian side), show proof of your experience as a "systems analyst",(Nafta was drafted in the late 80's, so computer-talk
was somewhat limited, compared to today's standards) i.e. a resume and a
letter from your American employer, saying you've been hired on as a
"systems analyst" and somewhere between $65 and $85 dollars and you can get the visa on the spot.
Not always as easy as that. An ex co-worker of mine went to the border to get his visa after being hired by the Marriott chain as a systems analyst. He was unable to get it despite several years experience because he had no formal education in the field. Efforts by Marriott and himself for months proved fruitless. This person was at one time my supervisor which I mention only because I was able to cross the border with different credentials but had a diploma from the University of Alberta.
Also as far as the questions go about citizenship - I had many interviews here in the US and was never once asked about visa's etc until my first day on the job during the induction process. And yes, the company made sure that my work permit was kept current until I received my permanent resident status.
The only exception to this was an interview with the Federal Government for a very similar position to one I held in Canada. I was asked early on about my citizenship as the particular department (Justice) had a citizenship requirement - presumably for legal reasons. The employer expressed deep regrets that we were unable to proceed and I had no feeling whatsoever of discrimination etc.
