I was wondering if Zip is becoming obsolete, too. I do my personal backups
on Zip disks, and I'm disappointed; I think it takes too long, and the disks
don't hold enough info. My backup -- files only, no apps -- requires 12
100MB Zip disks right now. That's too much disk shuffling. I use the Iomega
1-Step Backup, and it's fine for incremental backups (adding changed & new
files to an existing full backup), but sometimes it fails and forces me to
redo the whole backup. Then, since I don't have 24 disks, I have to erase
the old disks as I go, which temporarily leaves me with NO backup. I
hesitate to buy more (expensive) disks because I'm not sure I want to stick
with this b/u method.
I have not tried a CDRW; seems like it ought to be much faster, yet some of
you are saying it's slow, too.
What about tape backup drives -- are they obsolete? Too slow?
