Subject:Sample Books of Your Docs in Frame From:Dannette Thompson <dthomps -at- foundationsoft -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Thu, 16 Nov 2000 16:22:43 -0500
Hey All,
It's been a long day and my brain is a bit frizzled, so forgive me if I'm
missing an obvious solution here, but I'd like to enlist the help of some
Framemaker gurus.
Marketing came to me today to request a "Sample" version of our Getting
Started and User's Guide. These can be combined into one book which would
just have snippets out of each of several original Frame 5.5 files.
The problem is that the Frame files are still in a relative state of flux,
and I'd like to be able to have the Sample version update automatically from
the originals. I know that I can import whole files by reference. I plan to
use that feature for a couple files (like the TOC) where I want the entire
file imported. However, in most cases, I want only a portion of a file. I
think conditional text will work, but when I select the text I want to
import to apply a marker, I'm seeing the last Index marker in the dialog
box, and the button says "Edit." I don't want to edit the Index marker; I
want to create a new conditional marker. Even when I change the marker type
the dialog box stays with the "Edit" theme. Is it possible to have both
markers? Am I missing something? I've never used conditional text before, so
I'm feeling rather stupid!!
And am I going about this in the right way? Or does anyone have better
suggestions for creating a sample version of documentation?
Thanks so much for your input!
