Dannette Thompson writes about trying to use conditional text in Frame to
create samples for marketing and having difficulties creating "conditional
markers."
Dannette is going about this the wrong way. Although there are conditional
markers, they are managed behind the scenes in Frame. I will explain where
they do show up later in this message.
To manage conditions, go to the "Special" menu and select "Conditional
Text". If you need new conditions, or want to delete existing conditions,
click "Edit Condition Tag..." To mark text as being in one condition, select
it get the condition(s) into the correct "in"/"not in" column and click
"Apply". Note that conditions are really only used for HIDING text.
Anything not marked with a condition will be seen. This means that if you
are only dealing with one condition (for creating samples), that you want a
condition such as "NOT_SAMPLE" and want to hide that condition before
generating the sample.
Things get trickier when creating more types of output or when you have
multiple conditions. For example, if you include comments that you mark
COMMENT, then anything marked both COMMENT and NOT_SAMPLE will show when you
hide COMMENT and show NOT_SAMPLE.
When you hide text you will see the conditional markers to indicate that
there is hidden conditional text. But if you examine the marker in the
'marker' dialog, it won't make much sense, as it is a Frame reference
number.
