I'm not sure what would qualify as Other/none of the above, but my
choice of the other two options would depend greatly on
circumstances.

Being a lone writer isn't bad, so long as you feel part of another
team. For example, if I'm accepted by the programmers and they
respect what I do, I don't miss other writers. However, if I'm not
accepted, then being a lone writer can be hellish.

By the same token, I enjoy a team in which everyone is nearly equal
in skill and experience, and you can consult with people. But I
dislike organizing other writers; I might as well try herding cats.
Nor do I like being organized by someone else.

For that matter, I suppose I'd answer differently on different days.
Maybe the query I started this post would be answered by: being a
lone writer some of the time, and part of a team of writers some of
the time.
