I need to create the demo for an application. The demo should not be too big
in size as it has to be attached with the application. I would like to know
which s/w would be suited for making the demo. I have been experimenting
with various s/w such as Lotus ScreenCam, ViewletBuilder, Demoshield etc.
The problem is that the size of the demo file becomes too big.

Prerna,

What do you consider too large of a file size? I use Demoshield to create
our software demos and CD frontends, and it works well. There is a bit of a
learning curve until you become familiar with the interface and tools.
However, after you've created a couple projects you'll quickly learn how
useful and flexibly the program can be.

If a single demo file is too large, you may want to break up your demo into
multiple files. Create a separate demo for specific parts of your
application. This may work better if you are going to place the demo files
on a Web site for downloading. The last two versions of Demoshield also
allow you to save your demo in formats specifically for use over the Web.
The current version of Demoshield is 6.7. If your version is less than 6.5,
be sure to check out the new version.

To distribute on CD, you could use these same files and then create a
separate frontend file that gives the user a choice of which demo file to
run.

Don't waste your time with Lotus Screencam. It is a buggy program. And yes,
it does create rather large files. I have not used ViewletBuilder - so I
cannot comment on it.

Dave Bree
