Excuse me?!

Where is it written that one must be male to deal with bullies? I'll have
you know I can deal with a bully just as well as _anyone_ else! (Size, sex,
age have nothing to do with it. I don't take crap.) I realize that I tend to
be sensitive about such things, so I might be overreacting, but still.. A
man can deal with a bully better than a woman? Because of testosterone?? I'm
sorry, but that is an old, tired argument that's just plain wrong.

We're straying away from technical writing here, but I couldn't resist this one!

Willow, you and I feel that we're more than capable of handling bullies. However, believe me, there are some bullies out there that will NOT be managed by a woman. Period. It's one of the reasons I left engineering. Until those dinosaurs retire, I'm only beating my head against a wall. Not worth it. And yes, I did file the formal complaint. The court case would have dragged on for years, so I settled.

And it doesn't even matter if your firepower is bigger than theirs. I have a cousin who spent years years with the US Forestry Service as a Park Ranger. She's a lot bigger than I am, with shoulders like a linebacker from hauling and throwing around bales of hay. And she went into the field well-armed. Sometimes bullies simply won't back down from a woman. That's when the shooting started.

So unless you're willing to come armed to the office, sometimes you can't get past them.
