Bruce:
As sole tech writer on a six-person software dev team, I do a fair amount of
simple graphics production and editing. This involves pulling relevant
screenshots from the software interface for inclusion in the user guide and
(occasionally) the help files. (We have almost no graphics in our
programming materials.)
I'd say that in the user guide (200 pages) there are probably 60
screenshots. I use a screengrab app called FullShot to capture the images
and edit them in Photoshop.
Editing is minor -- I rarely mess with the colours; I occasionally make
composite images from several screengrabs to hide site-specific data -- but
I have no problem cropping a screnshot if it means an illustration fits my
Frame template. So long as no relevant/illustrative aspects of the image are
lost, naturally.
