Dick brought up a good point
> We use Flash (without sound)after announcing that clicking the button will begin the Flash presentation (that is, we don't spring it on anyone unawares). It enables us to draw attention to one part of a screen, show a button being clicked, move the focus to another part of the screen where the resultant change occurs, explain what is happening with scrolling text, etc.

That sounds like a great way to handle it. And you've covered the issues
that arise - letting them know they're being taken into a Flash
enviroment, offering navigation.
Well done!
But the initial post I was responding to seemed to me to be a neophyte's
high-level inquiry, not geared to this scenario. I've seen many fledgling
Web designers committing horrendous "fashion crimes" with animation;
that's what I was trying to prevent.
Remember: Only YOU can prevent Web tackiness.
