Yes, it does sound cynical. But sometimes it's absolutely the right
thing to do.
Out of curiosity, how do you know exactly how much underpromising to
do? What clues do you get from the client (or manager) that let you
know when you are underpromising too much and thereby jeopardizing
your shot at the gig?
