Hi Curtis:

Sorry to hear you're feeling so discouraged. I can certainly see why. Have
you tried Flipdog.com (the US site?) I'm afraid I probably can't be too
helpful about the "true" state of the TW job market since I live in Canada.
What I *can* share is prior to Sept. 11 TW jobs and contracts were
plentiful up here as well. Following Sept 11 until about a month ago there
was absolutely nothing (workwise) in the area in which I live.

Then around the middle of Feb. things started looking up again. A few
jobs/contracts started to appear. It's as if everyone (including employers)
were holding their breath.

I too was pounding the "digital pavement" on average eight hours a day and
sending out resume after resume. Unlike you, I wasn't even getting called
for interviews and was really getting very discouraged. They (the job
hunting experts) say that looking for a job should be a full time job. I
can honestly say I've never taken that approach before but certainly did
this time. I focused all of my energy and time on getting work.

In my case this has paid off beautifully. I've just landed an eight month
contract doing ISO documentation and just finished second week on the job.
My other TW friends tell me I'm extremely lucky to get a contract of this
duration.

In my case, this contract, truly arrived just in the nick of time. I had
really reached end of my financial rope. I used to check the Headhunter.net
(USA) site frequently when I was actively looking for work. It seemed to me
that there were tons of US TW jobs on that site when there were none
available in Western Canada.

My hope for you is that a position or contract will materialize for you too
in the near future. I know that's hard to believe especially when financial
needs become or are pressing.

Hope you have a good day.
Sara in Canada.
