Mmmm, yep, that's how I landed my second job...more or less. I hit all of the high tech companies in my area with a resume. Luckily it was during the .com boom. I was being wooed by a .com, but thankfully I took my current position. Long term benefits were much greater. :-)

One thing I forgot to add was that you can use online job boards. I haven't had much luck through these, but I do get nibbles, mostly contract work that would require me to quick my current job, which I'm not about to do in this market. Try monster.com and dice.com . Both are pretty good. I have a list of job board sites on my own web site:
