If someone has replaced their mouse with a touch pad, they know it's the
*equivalent* of a mouse. I seriously doubt they're going to be confused by the
word.
Ditto for mouse keys, trackballs, stylus & tablet, and other mouse alternatives.

The problem is, the "cursor" is something different from the pointer. Maybe it's
because I learned the word back in the days of DOS, but to me the "cursor" is
the small underline at a command-line prompt, or the insertion point in a text
document. If you're in Word, for instance, you have a "cursor" and you have a
"pointer" that are likely to be in two different places on the screen.
A couple of people suggested the phrase "Point to." Assuming we're not writing
for ultra-newbies (think smudges on the monitor), that wording sounds okay to
me.
