I disagree. I know a few people who have bad credit ratings as a result of a
divorce, as a result of their spouse's irresponsibility, or as a result of
being unemployed for a length of time. It is not necessarily a judge of
character. Even if someone is irresponsible with their money, it does not
reflect their work habits. Some people are just raised without learning
money management skills. These people love to work and work extremely well,
but are hopeless with managing their money.

Money management skills and work ethics are not causally related.

I believe that using credit checks is a contemptible and unjust method to
filter job applicants. An employer has no right to delve into the personal
lives of prospective employees.
