Thanks, Jenny.

Yes...every time I speak to a recruiter or hiring manager, even when I'm
currently employed, I ask if they want to be notified when I'm coming off
contract. If they say yes, they go on the list.

If I go to a company web site's employment page and see the address to send
resumes, they go in the database.

If I go to a web page containing a list of recruiters, they go in the
database.

If a recruiter contacts me through Monster, Dice, etc., they go in the
database.

Is this evil?

Dude...chill. To hear John's description, it sounds like he's got an
opt-in list going and he's using it as he sees fit -- why? -- because the
people who are on it specifically told him they wanted to be on it.
They're only on the list because they know what John will be emailing them
about, when he does email them. I'm sure if they never wanted to see his
email in their inboxes again they'd let him know, and I'm sure John would
do the honorable thing and remove them immediately. But to accuse him of
crimes he hasn't committed is rather uncalled for, doncha think?
