I think this person must have ended up working for the company I just left.
It was my worst editing-related nightmare, he was in charge of the corporate
style guide, and despite my being the technical communications manager,
I had no authority over him (don't ask what coporate managerial logic led to
that). He had about a dozen different "authoritative sources" cited in that
guide, which he would wade through until he found one that supported his
stylistic preferences, even if all the others disagreed. And he knew next to
nothing about the tech of the products we were documenting.
