The single most important course I took wasn't in high school or college. It was in
the Air Force. In teaching me to be a radio operator, they also insisted I learn to
type. Typing has been the single most important skill I've used in my job.

Second most important was the course I taught in English Composition. There is an
aphorism from somewhere that says one truly doesn't learn a subject until one
teaches it. I learned a lot about writing basics by teaching others how to do a
simple 3-5 page essay. I learned the importance of having a purpose, understanding
the audience, and using language appropriate to the audience and purpose.

The basics always stand me in good stead.
