Janet,

XML is a large subject. How you start learning depends
on how you intend to use XML, development or
publishing. As this is TECHWR-L, I assume the later.

Depending on your level of technical expertise, you
will be able to learn XML online and for free.

Everything begins with the W3C (http://www.w3c.org).
Get to know this site well. you will visit it on
regular basis.

Next go to W3Schools (http://www.w3schools.com)
If you have no background in HTML, start there and
progress to XML, then XSL etc.

For more insight check ZVON (http://www.zvon.org)
Here you can dig and dig until. The Tutorial's can be
downloaded in zip or tar.gz. As you advance you will
find the XLabs helpful.

Start with this. If you need more, just let me know.

Enjoy,

Sean Wheller

My learning was a mix of online resources and books. I
didn't take any classes, so I can't help you there.
The books I found most useful were:

Teach Yourself XML in 21 Days
XML Bible
XML: A Primer

```````````````````````````````````````````````
Some good web sites to go to are:
Technical Introduction to XML
http://nwalsh.com/docs/articles/xml/
Working with XML
http://java.sun.com/xml/jaxp/dist/1.0.1/docs/tutorial/TOC.html
XML-DOC
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xml-doc/
TopXML
http://www.topxml.com/
XML.com
http://www.xml.com/index.csp
The last two have lots of articles/tutorials about
working with XML.
G'day.
The W3 page (http://www.w3.org/xml/) has a list of
"other resources"
below the links to the specification. This includes
online tutorials,
bibliographies magazines and "even movies".
XML.com (http://www.xml.com) has a list of brief
articles under the
title of "Essentials" that define the various
technologies quite well.
Don't let the specs scare you off the technology.
There's lots of help
in learning xml out on the web.
Hope this helps.
