>From Chuck Martin:
"My manager, who is Marketing Director (yeah, I know....), and who has
shared my passion for creating usable products, wrote this response: "And
what is the benefit of the user knowing who they are?""

A couple of possible responses. One, in our application, users may log in
using different names depending on what type of work they plan on
performing. In this case, one user may have more than one possible login
name. This is especially true when performing administrator functions - I
myself have an administrator log in, but I only use it when I need to
restart servers or remove command locks. If I'm just working in the
software, I log in as a regular user to avoid some of the extra junk that
comes along with being an admin user.

Two, in many workplaces, especially those that run multiple shifts, more
than one operator may use the same workstation. Personalization would let an
operator know if a previous user forgot to log out.
