Fong, Evid asks about Dreamweaver:
For instance, the previewed version of the template has a heading 3 style in blue that is highlighted in gray. However, that same heading 3 style in a previewed document (based on the template) is displayed as black text with no shading. What could cause the two previewed documents to appear differently?

Dan Charles solution is the best if there really is a problem with your stylesheet. But this may also be a problem with Dreamweaver's preview function. I know that with me, sometimes when I preview web pages some of the letters are missing in the heading, but if I open the same document in IE (by browsing to the file in Explorer and not going through Dreamweaver) the letters are there. SO, before you go through a long process of reworking your Web site, you might want to check to make sure it's not just a display problem with Dreamweaver. :-)

note: the above statement in no way lessons my admiration and downright love of Dreamweaver. The only program I like better is PhotoShop....GIMP is a close tie though. :-)
