I wonder about this as well. I see it on mailing lists, news groups and
in local associations. Not to mention the workplace. Leaders are elected
or emerge, and they take control. Perhaps those hapless new comers who
say "wait a minute...." and start asking questions are frozen out of some
activities like job opportunities and this amazing STC networking I am
reading about. I am betting that there might even be a sub-network for
those who play nice and do not rock the boat. Those often form.

I also think that those who make trouble will not have a good time
participating. This is just my view, and I am not accusing anyone of
anything.

Whenever you start challenging people, they get mad. I recall telling
people at work their rights and how the chain of command operates, should
they have a grievance with their supervisors. Big mistake, and it caused
me trouble. I was viewed as a trouble maker. I am not saying that the STC
leadership behaves like this, but I do wonder. Do not shoot me for
asking.

What happens if some wonk like me starts asking embarrassing questions,
sending around a petition to force change (or try to) or start accusing
local leadership of dropping the ball or not offering their underlings
the value they expect?

Remember, I am just asking questions folks. Apparently, I am not the only
one who wonders about the STC.

Bob
