I was an unemployment intake person in MA for about six months in early
2003, and I can tell you that the 26-week clock on your unemployment
benefit will start on the Sunday of the week following the last week
covered by your severance payment. I believe they have also reinstituted
the one-week waiting period, which means you do not get paid that first
week at all.

You can earn up to one-third of your weekly benefit (which will be in
the neighborhood of $507-512 per week, unless they increased the top
payment) free and clear. After that, the amount is deducted from your
weekly benefit dollar for dollar.
