I believe what you mean is not CRM but simply "CMS" or "content
management system." A good content management system/methodology would
indeed contain this sort of options for internal users.
CRM frequently is used where content management is also, but not
necessarily always.
The largest problem in cases like this is the tendency for folks to
print and stockpile documents which become steadily more out of date.
Thus, for an Intranet in a business in which process audits are a way
of life, I suggest not permitting this printing to begin with.
For .pdf documents, Adobe makes a server product that will feed them a
web page at a time, so that all users would be accessing the same base
document in its latest form.
