The service mark [SM] symbol is Unicode character 2120, so typing
Alt-[Keypad]2120 should work without having to go through the
Insert->Symbol menu if you're using Windows. If you are using a Unicode
font, you should find it in the "Letter-like Symbols" group just before
[TM], which is U+2122. A partial list of fonts which have the [SM]
character, including the Lucida family, can be found at http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/2120/fontsupport.htm with
image samples.
