I, too, recommend the "American National Standard, ANSI X3.6-1970, Flowchart
Symbols and their Usage in Information Processing."

They have stood the test of time, and you can still buy flowcharting
templates (plastic) in just about any place that sells artists supplies.

The 'native' Visio symbols and the help associated with each symbol are
excellent.

AND, there are a whole gamut of symbols in the 'stencil' libraries. I have
used Visio 4.x, 5.x, and 2000, and find them easy to use.

I started serious flowcharting in the 70's and have not found any symbol
that I could not find on the template.
