The combination of Zeldman (_Standards_) and online CSS references is
best, if I'm gauging your starting point right.
Remember that you can't master CSS (it ain't that hard) without mastering
XHTML. CSS-P (positioning) is especially dependent on valid, well-formed
XHTML. There are also important things to understand about normalizing
browser behavior, and things that simply don't work in today's world.
_Designing with Web Standards_ succinctly presents about ninety percent of
the last five years' hard-won webhead knowledge. It might *seem* too
general, like it's not enough of an XHTML book and not enough of a CSS
book. In fact, it explains what you really need to know: how it all fits
together.
I and a lot of others learned this stuff at the same time Zeldman did but
we still refer to _Standards_, to remind ourselves *why* something works
or doesn't.
