I would agree with this as far as what a new writer or intern needs
to be successful at learning to be an effective writer. OTOH, some
working knowledge the current tools is probably a "must have" or
close to it for actually getting the assignment. Most people who
evaluate applicants for entry-level positions or internships
probably understand that the candidates have little real-world
knowledge and will have to be mentored in "how things are done"
in their particular industry, but I would bet that most are not
going to want to have to provide DTP lessons. Fortunately, that's
one of the things that students have a reasonably good chance of
becoming passably proficient at with only school training.
