First, I'll ask: Are you studying tech writing in
school? If you are, make sure to stay glued to this
list (techwr-l) and others like it to see where tech
writing is and where it seems to be going.

I'm not sure about the effect of outsourcing on
employment opportunities here (I'm a recent graduate
and I work full time at the company I interned for as
part of my final project for a software writing
class.) A bit of advice, get at least one internship
and do your best while there. Someone will notice.

Your schedule and salary depend on the sector and
industry you work in and your geographic location.
Where do you live/go to school?

I worked part time while I went to school. As far as
salary range, you can work for a non-profit where most
start at a certain salary regardless of position or
you can start at an entry level for tech writers,
whatever that may be.

I'd say that tech writing can at times be enjoyable,
maybe even fun. But you should look to broaden your
skills and take every opportunity to learn things that
seem to be outside of the scope of tech writing. You
may find that you like those things and may want a
change of scenery.
