To be fair to Cooper, their business is 'interaction design'. They
believe it's not the same as UI design or software design or usabilty,
and that it's worth making the distinction.
So what they want is someone who can communicate information about
designs--between team members, between the design team and management,
between the team and the client. It involves writing but also a lot
other than writing.
I expect most really good TWs would make really good design
communicators in Cooper's terms, but I imagine they don't want to limit
their pool of applicants to those who identify as tech writers.
Cooper's is an interesting company. If they ever move from Menlo Park to
Perth (admittedly, not too likely) I'd apply in a shot.
